Citrus Bud Mite

It is strange that such a tiny pest can cause such great distortions in fruit, but the Citrus Bud Mite (see UC Davis Integrated Pest Management site on Citrus Bud Mite).

I picked this Eureka lemon from our tree last week. The pictures show how "alien" the fruit can look:

The fruit almost looks like a hand with very large fingers.

This is happening to my lemons also, how do I get rid of the bud mites causing this? Any suggestions, tips, links?

Thanks!
Wendy

Hi Wendy,
There is a link in the first paragraph to the UC Davis Integrated Pest Management website. That site discusses some treatments to deter the bud mite, however timing is critical.
Do you have a large problem with your lemons? It seems to affect only a handful of lemons on my tree.
